About the Event
The Distant South are a Melbourne based Folk, Americana band playing their own tunes and telling their own stories of Love, Depression, Heartbreak, Ecstasy - and everything that lies between. Comprising singer/songwriter, Nick Howells, Brad Partridge on Double Bass, Renee Bufton on Violin and Vocals - and Jim Ten Hoev on Banjo, drums & harmonica - The Distant South bring together some incredible talent from bands including Buy Me A Pony, The Bay Street Preachers, Drover and Peach. Inspired by Alt Country, Americana, Bluegrass and Folk music, influences include Sierra Ferrell, liz Stringer, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch and The Cox Family and Courtney Marie Andrews. Acoustic by nature - melody, beautiful harmonies and emotive lyrics are the artefacts that define the sound of The Distant South. @TheDistantSouth
Teresa Duffy-Richards' songs are steeped in the vast traditions of Folk and Country music. She and partner Joshua Jones create a rousing live duo show with acoustic guitars, banjo and dobro, often compared to the likes of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. You'll also find her at times backed up by her band The Fifty Foot Women, surrounded by the swell of rich three part harmony and the occasional booze soaked electric guitar reminiscent of Neil Young and the catalytic classic rock that informed much of her teenage years. But ultimately it is the timeless song writing of old world and 20th century troubadours and Tennessee reared yodellers, that inspires much of her work.
"Teresa's depth and artistry is astonishingly beyond her years and is one of the most exciting voices in alt-country this country has heard in a long time - absolutely gorgeous!" - Kath Devaney, ABC Country
